Welcome to the new Homepage of young european swiss | yes!
young european swiss (yes) is a political Swiss youth organisation, which aims to lead Switzerland towards full membership of the European Union. Whether one sees it a pragmatic necessity or an idealistic conviction, Switzerland is an integral part of Europe and therefore its relations to its neighbours are of utmost importance for its well-being in any domain, .
Three good reasons for a Swiss membership in the European Union
To secure economic benefits sustainably.
Access to the Common Market is absolutely vital to Swiss prosperity. Bilateral treaties may secure this access temporarily but this approach is getting more difficult and more expensive by the minute as well as it entails considerable uncertainties - be it an eventual no at the ballot box or due to its static character. Full membership, on the other hand, guarantees economic advantages and it allows for a sovereign participation in the rule making of the Common Market.
To secure Swiss democracy.
It is an erroneous belief that Switzerland stays more democratic as a non-member of the EU. A large part of Swiss legislation is currently drafted and decided by the EU. Switzerland copies this legislation because European solutions are needed for European problems. Nonetheless, Switzerland does not have a say in the negotiations of these new rules at the moment - despite the fact that as a European country, it would be allowed to exercise this right. Therefore, full membership returns this proto-democratic right to Swiss citizens.
To share the Swiss democratic experience.
Our country has much to offer: We have an enormous experience in dealing peacefully with different cultures, languages and mentalities. Swiss federalism is a role model for compromise between strong and weak, big and small. Swiss people may justifiedly be proud of their institutions - and therefore, may also contribute to the process of reforming and optimising the function of the European Union.
