europe @ school

young european swiss | yes organised the youth project europe@school already six times since 2003. Target audiences are grammar school students of the 11th and 12th grade. Students should get the opportunity to deepen their knowledge on Swiss-EU relations as well as to gain valuable rhetorical experience through their political work.

Organising europe@school, yes aims to...

  1. motivate critical thinking and to encourage youth to participate actively in political debates.
  2. further knowledge on the Swiss-EU relations.
  3. inspire a dialogue on the future of Europe and Switzerland's role through work shops and simulations.

The project day is structured as follows:

In the morning, a representative of the Swiss Confederation gives a short input speech on the official "Swiss European Policy" of the federal government. Afterwards, students attend various workshops in which they deepen their information on the Swiss-EU relations. Students may choose between the three model workshops "Relations Switzerland-EU", "Enlargement and Deeping of the EU" and "Global Europe", which may also be adapted to the specific needs of the students.

In the afternoon, an simulation of an EU parliamentary debate is organised in which students take the roles of different representatives of European political parties who discuss controversially on present European challenges.

The project is concluded by a panel discussion on the future of Swiss European Policy featuring federal parliamentarians. This panel debate is be organised either by yes or the participating students.
